Hi everyone! This is my newsletter. If you aren’t subscribed and want to subscribe, click here!
My US tour in support of True Love is over. My EU/UK tour begins in April, get tickets here.
Thank you to everyone who came to the shows from Chicago to Santa Cruz. It was one of the must fulfilling tours of my life so far. Why was that the case?
Every show felt like an adventure in sharing love with people. I know this sounds corny but that’s really how it felt to me. I got to share with people I consider my friends and my peers. I got to share hugs with strangers and enjoy the energy that we all brought to the shows, which I felt was an energy of love and emotional openness. I so appreciate being a part of that. More important to me even than music is creating that feeling and being in them with other people, and I hope to be able to do that in one form or another for the rest of my life!
My dream for the future of my music is that my shows become a space for love and emotional connection as much as possible. And this tour really did feel like that, so thank you to all of you who contributed to that. It’s a blessing to share that space with you. Live music can be a vehicle for so many things, and I hope to use it to create that space for myself and others.
Playing the shows with Abandon and Sorry Girls was a total pleasure. I traveled with Abandon on the first half of the tour, and I feel so completely changed and inspired by that experience. The attitude they brought to touring and to what it means to play music for people really did open my heart and influence my own views. We worked together on a daily newspaper for every show (except one, haha) called The Tour Gazette Daily Chronicle Please Read, incorporating submissions from people we met at the shows in addition to our own writings. Most nights, we would be driving around trying to print the newspaper in time for the beginning of the show. It was so much fun, and I encourage you to read all issues of the Gazette here!
I had never met most of the folks in Sorry Girls although they are from Montreal, and playing shows with them was also so much fun. We got to know each other quickly on tour and became friends. I loved seeing them perform every night, and was sad to see them go at the end of the tour.
When I got to the show in Chicago to begin the tour I was thinking, “wow, can I do this?” and by the time I finished the show in Santa Cruz I felt the value of what I had been doing. Sometimes touring can be the ultimate lesson in how many amazing, kind, generous people there are everywhere in the world. Everyone who opened their home for me and Abandon to spend the night, all who came to the shows with such a loving attitude. It was awesome! I am indebted to all of you and I don’t take it for granted.
A last thing for everyone who is interested in purchasing an LP of True Love (or Dream Songs): you can order one here.
Thanks again to all of you who subscribe to this newsletter and to all who have been in communication in one form or another over this past year. It’s been one of the best years of my life, and getting to share my music with you all is a big part of that. Looking forward to doing it again next year! I hope to be doing more touring and to be releasing more music in 2020, in addition to the EU/UK tour coming up in April.
Much love,
Devon
